APGA Leadership Crisis: Obiano’s 2nd Term Bid Under Threat

Willie Obiano
Governor Willie Obiano's continued support for the suspended national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye is currently threatening his second term bid, Vanguard reports.

Deputy national secretary of the party, Chief Jerry Obasi, while speaking on the crisis rocking the party, said that much as the national working committee and the national executive committee were committed to the second term bid of Obiano, they still maintained that Oye should vacate his seat as national chairman of the party.

He said: “We, as a party and the NWC have considered to adopt Obiano as governor but that does not mean we must commit suicide because we want to return Obiano as governor.

“There has always been APGA without Oye and there will always be APGA without Oye.

The suspension of Oye is timely because we don’t want to risk the two sensitive elections we have in Anambra, Obiano’s governorship election and Chief Victor Umeh’s senate election in Anambra central senatorial zone.”

Obasi said the NWC had at a recent meeting with the governor in Awka insisted that a new national chairman should replace Oye if the party must move forward, an issue that was not addressed.

“It will be quite unfortunate if because of one man called Oye, the party will be cowed into swimming in its own blood which is the blood of defeat, failure and the party will dig its own grave and finally bury itself,” he stated.

While describing as laughable an alleged plan by a group loyal to Oye to suspend the Ozo Nwabueze Okafor-led NWC and acting national chairman, Obasi warned that any person or group dealing with the suspended national chairman out of desperation and without recourse to the NWC as presently constituted, will have himself or herself to blame.
