Miss Anambra 2015 Sex Scandal: A Big Threat To Our Traditional Authorities And Institution, By Aisha Edward

Chidimma Okeke
The Director, Center For Moral Mentorship, Aisha Edward has called on traditional rulers to shun what she referred to as "nowadays politics" and rise now to defend our societal values before it is too late. Read Below:

Cultures and moral values are strong identities of a every society, they speak great volumes of what the society represents, how it is viewed and its capabilities. These values cannot not be washed away by neither time, nor storms. The Individuals of a particular society may be washed away but their culture holds strongly and is passed on to oncoming Generations.

In our case, as Africans and Igbos in particular, we hold our values stronger than anything, and have always fought endlessly to protect them. This the reason why the British direct rule succeeded in the North but not in the East, because we would not let go off our traditional systems of Government, as it was the last strategy of protecting our values.

However, when the values of a particular society is heavily threatened, the people look up to the custodians of these values to not only speak up, but rise with strong will to protect the values from extinction. Our traditional rulers and titled chiefs are the wardens of our societal and moral values as an Igbo Nation and in the violation of such values, it is expected that they rise up to protect what we hold dear, and their voices are not just heard they are revered even by Presidents, Governors and any political leader.

The current trending lesbian video of one Miss Chidinma Okeke who was the winner of Miss Anambra 2015 and her partner Miss Ada Nzekwe, and the silence of all relevant stake holders both in Government, within the women, the Clergies, Chidimma's Family and human rights folk has made it imperative to call on the custodians of our values to come and remedy the situation, as it is perceived that they are the only ones that can succinctly speak up in protection of the moral values that are gradually decaying and grossly being eroded as depicted by the act in the video.

In the Grey days, abominable acts like this, that violates the culture and values of the people are treated with high discipline and in most cases the culprits are ostracised or banished from the land. As much as we do not pray for banishment or ostracising the girls, we only pray for a revered voice to speak up and abhor this evil, as our silence would only lend approval and credit to the evil that has been perpetuated, not only by the lesbian act which is against the Law of the Nation and our values, but also by leaking such video to the public which violates all manner of decency.

We humbly call on our Traditional rulers to timely wade into this matter, and save our society from further decadence, as posterity would never forgive their silence on issues like this. They should not relax in the comfort of their palaces or their palliative  homes overseas and play unconcerned, as this is one of the reasons we not only look up to them but respect them as our Custodians.

It’s high time the ANAMBRA STATE TRADITIONAL RULING COUNCIL Rose up to the occasion to redeem the image of THE STATE that is highly revered but is now being trampled on by this singular act of irresponsibility. Being a strong force in the state it would be wise that they start asking the necessary questions to avoid the disrepute this act would cause their coveted positions if their neglect and silence persists.
