I have read through the story as reported by Vanguard on the admonitions of Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
I think the uproar and anger over those statements are highly misplaced. I did not see anything wrong in admonishing his pastor's not to grow beards, marry a woman who can cook and pray or marry from same flock. It is all family business and shouldn't take more priority over the Budget padding.
I noticed that he also told them to to for regular medical checkups and take the issue of their health seriously. He equally warned against bringing in tribalism in the church , yet in all the criticisms, I never read any of these. People simply picked those that will generate enough controversies.
Let us address these issues ........
First,Pastor Adeboye was addressing his pastors and not members of the National Assembly, National Association of Nigerian Students,Nigeria Labour Congress or the Nigeria Union of Journalists. The Pastor was addressing pastors of his congregation. Men and women who took the vow to follow the gospel of the Lord Jesus as enunciated and expounded by the rules and regulations of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Men and women who have already signed to follow him and his teachings.
This comments should not be tabled at NASS as if the man was addressing the entire nation. Pastor Adeboye was addressing his pastors......
He is entitled to admonish them in ways he seem necessary and on issues he deem important to their well being and spiritual growth. He is their spiritual father and they too took a vow to follow and obey him. It is their business.
And if you are not a member of his pastorate, your criticisms of those pronouncements should be tempered by the realisation that you have no right to criticise the dressing code of the Freemasons if yiu are not a member and or the barefoot policy of the Cele Church........or why the Amadioha priest has white chalk over his left eye, ties loin cloth or enters the shrine with his back......there are rules only initiates and adherents are expected to live by.....not in the Nigeiam Constitution.
Let those he so admonished decide if they wantvto marry a woman who can pray for 24 hours,( even though that was literally taken out of context). Every Bible believing Christian undertood what he meant and also know that the potency of a prayer is not in the lenght. But when a Pastor warns about those who can't pray up to an hour,we all know he is simply addressing spiritual laziness.
I still so not see anything wrong in what Pastor Adeboye said to warrant a national debate over admonitions of a spiritual leader to his spiritual children.
We should worry about teachings or preaching that outright undermine either the peace, security, politics or economy of the nation. Not family discussions on lifestyles.
