E-thuggery and sycophancy, by Arthur Asika

Back then, my mum would tell us that we should stay back at home if anything political was going on. Not even “back then” because she still does it till now. She was scared that we might get involved with the politicians who might lure us into following their wishes using their money. But these days, I do not think you need to go out before being lured into being a thug. You can be a thug at the comfort of your bedroom; Mark Zuckerberg really did a nice job for us.

These days, all Facebook political and news pages are flooding with posts inciting violence and hatred for one group or another. In the world, it is a war between Christianity, Islam and non-religionists. In Nigeria, it is APC and PDP, Biafraud (Biafra) and NiZooria (Nigeria), Igbo and Hausa. In my state, Anambra, it is Peter Obi Vs Willie Obiano and Victor Umeh Vs Peter Obi and I think this last one was what triggered me into snapping up my keyboard.

For our silly youths that take up sycophancy as a profession and volunteering to be sacrificial chickens, what do they have in mind? Wasting their time for men that do not have up to twenty more years to live? Or for men that have personal interests that can be friends at any moment?

Sometime last two years, Peter Obi, the erstwhile Governor of Anambra State had a fallout with the incumbent, Obiano and the Former Chairman of his previous party, Sir Victor Umeh. These two years gave birth to a new menace in the young blood of Anambra children. They have taken it upon themselves to fight for men that have been friends long before their (the youths) births.

You are what you read. Emotions build more when you read than when you witness. Once our political E-thugs put convert their ignorant minds into typed words, people read it and anger builds up. This anger brings about enmity within the youthful circle. Instead of building a foundation for ourselves for the future, we are setting up fire due to men that are friends and will always remain friends while we grow as enemies.
If we start now to fight ourselves, when shall we stop? Let’s say no to E-thuggery! Let the old men settle their problems themselves!
