2018 And A Success Lesson From George Oppong Weah

George Weah's route to the Liberian Presidency is a masterclass in reinventing oneself a bit later in life. After an illustrious football career, he turned his mind to leading his nation, but the odds were stacked against him. Still he had decided, and he was was ready to work hard on his convictions, let come what may.

In 2005, at 39 years old, he ran for President for the first time and failed. He went back to school. He obtained his SSCE in 2006 at 40, his first Degree in 2011 at 45 and a Masters in 2013 at 47. He was elected to the Liberian Senate in 2014, aged 48. In 2017 Weah became Liberia's President-elect at the young age of 51. In less than 12 years George Weah went from retired soccer player to his country's elected leader.

You succeed by resolving to, then acting on your convictions - one step at a time. It worked for Weah, it will work for anyone else who is willing to pay the price.

If you are over 35 years of age and yet to get a handle on your life and destiny, I will suggest not wasting more of your fast dwindling stock of time in 2018 making New Year's Resolutions. I suggest you go with your instincts and act on that long standing aspiration which has refused to leave your subconscious alone for all these years.

This works whether yours is a life that has not quite taken off, an early midlife crisis, a career change or just plain lagging behind your contemporaries.

In many cases, the first step may be as hard as it was for George Weah - go get an education.

I wish everyone a transformational 2018. Either transform something or let something transform you.
