Nigerian Army Releases Press Statement On Nnamdi Kanu's Home Attack, Nigerians react

The Nigerian Army has released a press statement on the allegation that its members killed three members of the Indigenous People's of Biafra, IPOB today during their show of force in Umuahia, Abia state.

The army insisted that no IPOB member was killed but in a video footage shared online, one person was shot in the leg.

Read below:

"The attention of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, has been drawn to fictitious news going round especially on the social media that troops have invaded the home of Nnamdi Kanu and killed 3 persons.

"This is far from the truth. Rather, it was a group of suspected IPOB militants that blocked the road against troops of 145 Battalion while on show of force along FMC-Word Bank Road in Umuahia town, Abia State at about 6.00-6.30pm, today. They insisted that the military vehicles would not pass and started pelting the soldiers with stones and broken bottles to the point of injuring an innocent female passerby and a soldier, Corporal Kolawole Mathew.

"The troops fired warning shots in the air and the hoodlooms dispersed. No life was lost.

"Therefore the public are kindly enjoined to disregard the rumours going round and the fictitious photographs of purported victims of attack. Both the soldier and the innocent female passerby have been evacuated to the unit's Medical Inspection Room and are receiving treatment.

"We would like to use this opportunity to warn mischief makers threatening the peace and security of the country through falsehood such as above.

"Members of the public are please requested to go about their lawful business and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security outfit."

Meanwhile, some concerned citizens have quickly reacted to the Army's version of the story, Nwaenyi Sochukwuma Okwudili wrote: "This must really be a "reformed Nigerian Army" Are you really saying IPOB blocked road, injured a soldier and an innocent woman and the army only shot into the air to disperse the IPOB members. Are we talking of Nigerian Army or Canadian Army. If you believe this, you believe anything. Now the python dance begins."

Femi Fani Kayode: "I condemn the raid on Nnamdi Kanu's home by the army. I call for restraint and I deplore the unprecedented violence that is being employed. This is wicked, barbaric and unacceptable."

Adegboye Habeeb wrote: "The  south east elders should call kanu and his fellow jobless followers to order.  The IPOB guyz shld learn from al zakzaky  and his shiite followers in zaria.  A word, enough for the wise"

Onwuliri Tony: "The nigerian army are  telling lies, we saw it in the video and you people took your tanks and personnel to Nnamdi Kanus houseand shot at them, videos can't tell lies."

Vincent Ezechukwu: "There was  live video during the incident,  the army should state the correct version of the incident having in mind this is social media era where anything can be streamed live on Facebook."

Bin Yusuf: "Lol! Those blocking military passage should learn from the Zaria incident. Do not act and then start wailing, yieling and screeming when the reaction follows. People should fear d consequences of their actions"

Jude Orafu: "Nnamdi Kanu home has turned to federal highway...
Nigerian government and her security agents have been known as lying agency."

Martin Okoroji: "Nigerian army is not civilized.  Remember how they killed and even buried in a mass grave over 347 members of shiites Muslims in Kaduna last year and has since held their leader in captivity against court orders. Was there any show of force by Nigerian army when the southern Kaduna  people are being massacred in their bed at night by fulani herdsmen? The answer is NO. The fulani herdsmen killed thousands in Benue state but there was no army show of force. In Enugu, Fulani herdsmen on several occasions invaded and killed many people but there was no military show of force against the fulani herdsmen. So why the military deployment and show of force against the peaceful Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB ?"
