Queen Elizabeth honours her long-serving hairdresser at Buckingham Palace ceremony

For nearly 20 years he has carefully tended the head of state, making sure Her Majesty always looks as smart and proper as her role in the public eye demands.

But today it was Ian Carmichael's turn to be in the spotlight as he was given an award in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.

Mr Carmichael has been the Queen's hairdresser for 19 years, visiting the monarch at her homes around the UK twice a week.
