The 2016 Ukpor New Yam Festival In Pictures, With a Brief History Of The Prestigious Feast [Pictures and video]

Ukpor is a town in Nnewi South L.G.A, Anambra State.

Iri Ji Ukpor(Ukpor New Yam Festival), according to Ukpor history by Chief Leo Okonkwo, is always in the month of September. The first day of the feast is "Afor Ahia Okika". On Ahia Okika day, people dress up in festive manner while attending the Afor market situated in the middle of Ukpor town. Titled men and women are usually flamboyant in their manner of dressing on that day and purchases of necessary materials for the feast are made at the market.


The second day of which is "Nne Nkwo" day after Afor Ahia Okika is for Iri ji by initiates into Amuma and Urasi title.

While the third day, "Nne Eke" is for general festival where everyone will be involved in the feast. 

The 2016 New Yam Festival which ended today, 13th of September wasn't different from others. People trouped out en mass to grace the occasion despite heavy downpour that lasted for hours.
