[WATCH VIDEO] 2017 Ukpor New Yam Festival, Day 1

Iri Ji Ukpor (Ukpor New Yam Festival).

According to Ukpor history, the feast is always celebrated in the month of September.

Today, September 14 is marks the beginning of the feast which started with "Afor Ahia Okika".

On Ahia Okika day, people usually dress up in festive manner while attending the Afor market situated in the middle of Ukpor town.

Titled men and women known as "Ndi Nze na Ozo" were all over the market dressed in different traditional regalia. They are expected to buy all the necessary materials needed for the festival today.

In the video below, the chief priest of the the town was on a procession with his followers dancing around the market, praying and thanking the Almighty for a bountiful harvest.

The second day of the feast will be celebrated at the Igwe's palace.
