President Buhari Speaks At UN General Assembly, Nigeria Is Joke, By Tobenna Obiano

Nigeria's President, Muhammad Buhari stood for over 12 minutes, reading a beautifully written address to the United Nations Assembly.

I begin by applauding whoever that wrote the speech because of its content, I was patient to listen to the end, he went ahead condemning uprising, troubles and instability in nations of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan and went ahead to condemn the rising concern of North Korean as regards their push for Nuclear weapon.

While speaking against evil and threat all over the world, and ofcourse about the Isis, Al Qaeda and Boko Haram insurgency, he made powerful remarks.

He talked about many problems of flood and natural disasters, ofcourse worthy of note is a fact that he hasn't visited Makurdi in Benue State, Nigeria that was flood. Again, in all his beautiful nonsense, not one time, not even once did this man mention the invasion of Nigeria's military in Igboland, the push by us, ndi-Igbo that our nation be restructured or else, a referendum be held.

You can't call out evil in another man's land while ignoring foolishly and ignorantly, a worse case scenario happening right under your nose and behind your backyard.

Great speech it would have been, if he had touched the rising Igbo push for a better Nigerian society, but since it was unsmartly, unintelligently and ignorantly unmentioned, the beautiful speech is actually a beautiful nonsense and a junk in its entirety.

He can't also keep mentioning poor and inadequate funding and less finances for African nations. The world laughs at us whenever they hear that, especially when we run to CNN, an international and leading media brand to allege to have recovered billions in dollars as looted funds from past leaders and their cohorts.

The North Korea threat with nuclear weapon is a big problem no doubt, but to Nigerians and what matters or worries us most is the problem of hunger, joblessness, insecurity, tribalism, religious bigotry and ofcourse, perhaps above others, misleadership which this very Government under his watch is at its epicenter. Nigeria has never had it any worse.

It is only shameful that only last week, many young able bodied men and women were rounded up, and in total neglect of their fundamental human rights, were inhumanly treated, they were intimidated, tortured, maimed and some even killed. These persons were rounded up, forced to lie in mud water and as it was alleged, made to drink from same, beaten, harassed, and even the most unfortunate, were shot to death, yet the President who must have given the order, stands before the world to talk down on those who do exactly same thing he has done.

It was only laughable to listen when he claimed his wonders in upholding democracy in Nigeria and it sweeping all over the rest of Africa. This is a man who has dictatorial tendencies and has killed the voices of the opposition, intimidates those who disagree and hunt down political enemies. It's unfortunate.

World celebrated news channel, Aljazeera had this to say about the President's speech at the UN, "Muhammadu Buhari's UN speech is watery, unpresidential, uninspiring, he pretty much talked about every other country except his own. It shows lack of focus".

Ofcourse, when last did Nigeria have a leader who can stand before world leaders and speak powerfully with voice that commands courage, respect and shows fearlessness. Many aren't gifted with oratory, Buhari is obviously worse. One keeps wondering how else did this man make it to the Presidency if not for sentiments and region politics which has done more harm than good to us as a nation.

What a time in history, a moment it's just sad to be Nigerian. An unfortunate outing, I must say.
